SOP for Drill Operations
- Before starting the drill the operator should check for any tags like “B/D” “Out of order” or “Under repair”. If any such tag is visible, the operator should not start the machine.
- Before running the drill the drill operator should personally inspect the following details of the drill:
- Lights and horn are working properly.
- Track chain, feed chain and jack are working properly.
- Fire extinguishers are available.
- Oil or water leakage.
- Only authorized drill operator should operate the drill.
- Glass of operator cabin of the drill should be kept thoroughly clean for good visibility during operation.
- Drill operator should not allow any unauthorized person to ride on the drill during operation.
- Drill operator should see that the wet drilling arrangement/NVE of the drill is working properly. If any deficiency is observed, it should be reported to the higher authority.
- Before starting the drilling operation, the drill operator should confirm that the face is stable and he will not drill in a place which is cracked or disturbed.
- The drill machine should be properly leveled using jacks before starting drilling.
- The drill should not be operated or marched on a highly inclined floor/road.
- The drill mast should be folded and firmly rested on its bucket before working.
- The drill operator should confirm the position of power cables and overhead lines while drilling. He should never bring the machine within three meters of the overhead power line.
- While operating and marching the drill, the drill operator should confirm the position of the cable man/helper and trailing cables.
- The drill operator should follow all valid instructions of the supervisors.
- The drill operator should immediately stop and inform his superior officer in case of abnormal sound and leakage of oil or water.
- Before stopping the drill, the drill operator should march the drill to a safe and level place and install a jack. The drill engine or the power supply to the drill should be turned off.
