Safe Operating Procedure for Tipper / Dumper
Mandatory safety guidelines for safe and efficient operation of tipper/dumper in mining and heavy earth-moving operations. Strict adherence prevents accidents and ensures compliance with DGMS & safety standards.
- Operators should check for any tags of “B/D”, “Out of Order” or “Under Repair” before starting. If any such tag is visible, the operator should not start.
- Before operating the Dumper/Tipper, the operator should personally inspect and test the following:
- That the brakes, horn and AVA are working properly.
- That the head lights, back lights and dash board lights are working properly.
- That the machine is mechanically sound and in efficient working order.
- Fire extinguisher is available.
- The Dumper/Tipper should be operated by an authorized Dumper/Tipper operator only.
- The Dumper/Tipper operator cabin glass should be kept properly clean for good visibility during operation.
- Before starting the operation, the operator shall personally check the surroundings of the dumper/tipper.
- The dumper/tipper operator shall take the dumper/tipper for operation only when he is satisfied about the fitness/roadworthiness of the dumper/tipper.
- The dumper/tipper operator shall follow the traffic rules and drive the dumper/tipper only at the specified speed.
- He shall follow the valid instructions of the supervisor.
- He shall not allow any unauthorised person to ride the dumper/tipper.
- When approaching the swing area of the loading machine he shall follow the instructions of the supervisor and operator of the loading machine for loading and taking the load.
- In the dump yard, he shall dump the material at a fixed designated place and before leaving the dump yard he shall ensure that his bogie has come to its normal position.
- The Dumper/Tipper operator should not drive the Dumper/Tipper over, through or pass under the power cables.
- The Dumper/Tipper operator should not leave the operator cabin of the machine until he has parked the Dumper/Tipper at the designated parking space and followed all the braking procedures before switching off the ignition switch.
- He should be very careful while boarding and alighting from the Dumper/Tipper.
- He should not leave the operator cabin without sufficient reason during duty and should alight from the Dumper/Tipper as little as possible.
- The Dumper/Tipper operator must immediately inform his supervisor about any abnormality in the Dumper/Tipper such as abnormal sound, leakage or low tyre pressure etc.
- At the end of duty, he shall bring to the notice of Engineer/Foreman the log book/register provided in the office regarding abnormality or breakdown of Dumper/Tipper.
Pre-start checks → Authorized operator → Clean visibility → Follow signals & rules → Report abnormalities immediately → Zero tolerance for unsafe practices.
