WCL Mining Sirdar 2023 Previous Year Paper (Set D) with Official Answer Key || Indian Minerology

WCL Mining Sirdar 2023 Previous Year Paper (Set D) with Official Answer Key || Indian Minerology

If you want to know how heavily the Mining Sirdar exam leans on the law, this paper is the clearest answer. Of its 100 questions, more than 80 are taken directly from the Mines Rescue Rules, the Mines Act, the Coal Mines Regulations 2017 and the Mines Rules. Numbers, forms, section numbers and short phrases: that is what gets asked.

This post gives you the WCL Mining Sirdar 2023 paper (Set D) in English with all 100 questions, tap-to-reveal answers and the answer key released with the paper. Solve it like a real test first, then go back through the explanations and notes.

Please read: the answers follow the official answer key for Set D as released with the paper. The law has been amended since 2023, and the Mines Act is being brought under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. Always check the current text before using any of these figures at work or in a later exam. The questions about office-holders (Governor, Ministers, Directors) were correct in 2023 and are not valid today.

What the paper tells us

AreaQuestions
Coal Mines Regulations, 201755 (Q35 to Q89)
General knowledge, current affairs and company facts16 (Q7, Q8, Q12 to Q25)
Mines Rules, 195511 (Q90 to Q100)
Mines Act, 19529 (Q26 to Q34)
Mines Rescue Rules, 19856 (Q1 to Q6)
Technical concepts (tell-tale, disaster, coal origin)3 (Q9 to Q11)

The practical lesson: a candidate who has read the regulations carefully and memorised the numbers will do far better than one who only knows technical mining. Within CMR 2017, the heaviest areas here are shafts and winding (Q47 to Q57), haulage roadways (Q58 to Q68), plans (Q43 to Q46) and opencast and gassy mine provisions.

How to prepare for a paper like this

  1. Read the regulations themselves. Many questions repeat the exact wording of the regulation with one word or number blanked out.
  2. Make a number sheet. Group figures by topic (shafts, ropes, haulage, plans, dust, opencast) and revise it every few days.
  3. Practise in blocks. Do 25 questions at a time and review mistakes straight away.
  4. Leave current affairs for the last stretch. They are only a small part of the paper, and the answers change with time.
  5. Compare years. Read this paper with our WCL Mining Sirdar 2022 paper to see which areas repeat.
