If you are preparing for a Mining Sirdar exam, the single most useful thing you can do is solve real previous year papers. They show you exactly how examiners think: how much weight goes to the Mines Act and CMR, which abbreviations get asked, and how often the answer is simply "All of these".
This post gives you the WCL Mining Sirdar paper held on 24 April 2022 (Set B) in English, with all 100 questions, tap-to-reveal answers and short notes. Solve it first, check your score and then go back over the questions you missed.

| Questions and marks | 100 questions, 100 marks, 1 mark each |

What the paper tells us
Grouping the questions by topic (my own rough grouping, so treat the numbers as approximate), the paper looks like this:
- Mines Act, Mines Rules, CMR 2017, plans, forms and statutory duties: about 38 questions. This is the biggest chunk by far.
- Safety, rescue, health and first aid: about 14 questions
- Blasting and explosives: about 10 questions
- Roof support and strata control: about 9 questions
- Ventilation and mine gases: about 8 questions
- Mining methods, machinery and general knowledge: about 21 questions
The takeaway is clear: a candidate who knows the Mines Act, the Mines Rules and CMR 2017 well, including the definitions, forms, ages, time limits and abbreviations, is already close to passing before touching the technical topics.
About the answers: they are based on the responses marked in the paper and on standard references. WCL's official key can differ, and some rule-based answers (forms, distances, ages, regulation numbers) can change with amendments. A few questions are flagged for you to verify. Always check the Mines Act, 1952, Mines Rules, 1955 and CMR 2017 for the final word.

How to use this paper well
- Attempt it as a mock test. Set a 2-hour timer, answer all 100 questions and only then reveal the answers.
- Mark your weak topics. Group your wrong answers into Act and Rules, blasting, roof support and so on. That tells you where to spend your next study week.
- Make a list of abbreviations. This paper has plenty: FLP, SCSR, SCBA, FSL, PME, IME, HFL, CMM, PDS, FOS, RMR, SMP and more. They are easy marks.
- Memorise the numbers. Ages, days, distances and slopes (for example 72 hours for a reportable injury, a 7-day week and the 30-day notice) get asked directly.
- Read the original rules once. Questions on forms and regulation numbers come straight from the Mines Rules and CMR text.
Frequently asked questions
Is there negative marking in the WCL Mining Sirdar exam?
As per the 2022 booklet, no. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and wrong answers are not penalised.
Which topics matter most?
Statutory subjects such as the Mines Act, Mines Rules and CMR 2017 make up the largest share, followed by safety, blasting, roof support and ventilation.
Should I rely on the answers in this post?
Use them for practice, but verify rule-based answers from the official texts and the official answer key, because rules get amended and keys can be revised.
