Surface Mining Methods

Image
Surface Mining Methods:- Pit planning and layout:- The overall economic goal in surface mining is to remove the least amount of material while gaining the greatest return on investment by processing the most marketable mineral product. The higher the grade of the mineral deposit, the greater the value. To minimize capital investment while accessing the highest valued material within a mineral deposit, a mine plan is developed that precisely details the manner in which the ore body will be extracted and processed. As many ore deposits are not a uniform shape, the mine plan is preceded by extensive exploratory drilling to profile the geology and position of the ore body. The size of the mineral deposit dictates the size and layout of the mine. The layout of a surface mine is dictated by the mineralogy and geology of the area. The shape of most open-pit mines approximates a cone but always reflects the shape of the mineral deposit being developed. Open-pit mines are con...

Mining Public Colleges in India

Image
Mining Public Colleges in India:-         With the growing need for power generation and land  in India with an ever increasing population,it’s about time there are some smart decisions and research in these fields.Though the recent plans for smart sources of power generation i.e solar power are beginning to take place in large scale ,the immediate future of Indian power sector lies with Coal and coal alone. And it is time we take some really good decisions , due consideration to environmental and ecological balance, produce the required amounts of coal. The production targets for each company have been revised accordingly during the just completed fiscal year and it reflects the urgent need for an increase in power generation.

Digital Technology in Mining Industry

Image
Digital Technology in Mining Industry:- Digital Technology in Mining Industry:- A new era "Digital India" initiated by Government of India has given rise to new prospects of research and implementation in various fields. The main objectives of this initiative being availabity of government services by improving the online infrastructure and thereby increasing the internet connectivity throughout nation has developed huge potiential in sensors, telecommunication cables, optical fibers etc.

Surface and Underground Mining Methods

Image
Surface and Underground Mining Methods:- Surface and Underground Mining Methods:- In different parts of the world, people have their own style of eating such as Chinese eat with chopsticks, Indians eat with their hands, western people eat with spoon, fork and knife. While God knows how these people manage with three; rather than eating focusing on spoons for eating. While this goes true for mining too. Different parts of the world has different types of conditions in which a mineral is found and which led to adopting of different types of mining methods.

What are the different stages of mine life?

Image
What are the different stages of mine life? mine life cycle What are the different stages of mine life? When a person wants to achieve a goal, he follows a series of steps to meet the specific requirements of the goal.  For an example , let's say for cooking, the first stage includes to find the things to cook such as vegetables, cookery which can be found in supermarkets. The second stage of cooking include the quantity required to cook which needs to bought. The things that are need to be done to vegetables is the third stage which includes cutting, heating the pan. The final stage of cooking is to cook the items and it finishes your goal of cooking. The first three stages are as important as the last stage, but the last stage holds the prime importance as everything depends on its success.

Which is the deepest mine in India?

Image
Which is the deepest mine in India? Which is the deepest mine in India? Mining is all about who well you can dig and how deep you can dig to get the desired mineral. In the process, India have also evolved to innovate methods to dig deep and have constructed one of the world's deepest mines.

Roof Bolting Technology

Image
Roof Bolting Technology:- Roof Bolting Technology:- A continuous miner operator might load a record amount of shuttle cars in a shift, but the section doesn’t advance until the roof is bolted. Just like all of the other jobs underground, when the conditions are good, the work is relatively easy. Ground conditions often change and the miners have to deal with those conditions.

Steps before applying masters in mining

Image
Steps before applying masters in mining:- Students usually confuse themselves over applying for masters’ degree. There are two types of degrees i.e. Master of Science / Philosophy (M.Sc. / M.Phil.) and Master of Engineering (M. Eng.). This has been cleared in the article “Should you Opt M.S. or M.Eng. in Mining?” While the previous article deals with the differences, in this article I would like to share the steps to apply for a M.S. / M.Phil. degree in Mining.

Shale Gas, an energy innovation:India is willing to adopt

Image
Shale Gas, an energy innovation: India is willing to adopt:- India has been prominently consuming energy from coal, hydro, nuclear and from past few years by natural gas. India is the fourth largest energy consumer throughout the world though there is a critical shortage of electricity generation capacity. Now can this shale gas alter the fortune of India? Past half a decade, analysts were foretelling that the US will be importing natural gas at an increasing rate as they will be drying out their own resources. The crackling accomplishment of the oil companies in the US in producing the shale gas resources at large extent has changed the doom of energy deficit country to a surplus one. Can this shale gas prove as a silver bullet to India as that in US?  A small insight about the shale gas would lead to the opinions. Shale gas is unconventional source of natural gas found in shale formations. It is present in the form of bubbles in the impermeable shale rock. They are rich...

Which Mine Planning software is extensively used in India?

Image
Which Mine Planning software is extensively used in India? In the past two decades, the dependence of human life on computers is increased drastically. The applications of storing data and re utilizing the data whenever needed has made it much easier than in the log books. In the present time, the computers are being used in every industry and has become a important part of the human life. Mining Industry, like all other industries is increasingly progressing towards the usage of computers not only in storing the data but also in planning the whole mine. The significant increase in storage capacity and the processing speeds made the mining industry to rely on computer applications to carry out the designs, monitoring of the designs, scheduling of the operations with large amounts of data storage and retrieval. The various planning software's that are being used in the mining industry are: 1) Mine 2-4D and CADSMine software:- Once known as Graphic Mining Solutions ...

Continuous Miner

Image
Continuous Miner:- Continuous Miner:- A continuous miner is a mining machine that produces a constant flow of ore from the working face of the mine. The machine continuously extracts as it is loading coal with a cutting steel drum and conveyor system. Continuous miners are typically used in room and pillar mining operations. The continuous miner is different from conventional or cyclical mining methods, which halt the extraction process in order for ore-loading to proceed. Continuous miners, which began to take off in the mining industry in the 1940s, make up of 45 percent of the underground coalmine production. Today, continuous miners are being developed as driverless machines controlled via remote control. History:- Early Miners:- The continuous miner has been available in some form since the late 1800s. The first machine to resemble a continuous miner was known as the English Channel Machine. The pneumatically driven machine could travel 1.5 miles (2...

Environmental impact of the coal industry

Image
Environmental impact of the coal industry:- Environmental impact of the coal industry:- The environmental impact of the coal industry includes issues such as land use, waste management, water and air pollution, caused by the coal mining, processing and the use of its products. In addition to atmospheric pollution, coal burning produces hundreds of millions of tons of solid waste products annually, including fly ash, bottom ash, and flue-gas desulfurization sludge, that contain mercury, uranium, thorium, arsenic, and other heavy metals. There are severe health effects caused by burning coal. According to a report by the World Health Organization in 2008, coal particulates pollution are estimated to shorten approximately 1,000,000 lives annually worldwide. A 2004 study commissioned by environmental groups, but contested by the US EPA, concluded that coal burning costs 24,000 lives a year in the United States. Coal mining generates significant adverse environmental impacts. ...
